Chelyabinsk police detain stabber of minibus driver; Dagestan road crash reported

Shortly after the incident, Chelyabinsk police detained a man who stabbed the minibus driver during a confrontation and fled the scene. The information came from the regional ministry of internal affairs website. The injured 45 year old driver was taken to hospital with knife wounds. Police arrived quickly, noted the attacker’s appearance, heard from passengers which direction he had likely fled, and within two hours located and detained a 55 year old neighbor who lived nearby.

The police said that thanks to the information provided, they were able to determine the direction and probable location of the suspect’s escape. In a police statement, the teams carried out a door to door search at the house where the attacker could be found and ultimately detained the suspect. A knife was found during the search at the suspect’s residence. A criminal case was opened under Article 111 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The suspect faces up to eight years in prison for causing serious harm to the victim.

Separately, earlier on a highway in Dagestan, a major accident occurred involving more than ten vehicles. The incident prompted emergency responders to rush to the scene and coordinate a large scale response to manage traffic, assist injured drivers and passengers, and clear the roadway as quickly as possible. Investigations are continuing to determine the cause and to assess any legal or regulatory implications arising from the event.
