Never chase the lowest price. The expert cautions that bargains can hide counterfeit or nearly empty batteries. He explains that such batteries lack sufficient lead and may fail early. A practical test is to compare several units and select the heaviest one.
Shoppers should check the country of manufacture. Some imported batteries arrive unlabeled, and sellers may push them as branded products. Paying attention to domestic brands can be a safer choice.
On European cars the battery is secured with a clamping bar that has a protrusion on the case. On many Asian models the mounting bar runs along the top edge of the battery, with two studs attached.
