BW Expo in Moscow spotlights new buses and a surge of Chinese models

In late November, Moscow hosted the BW Expo, a gathering where the global bus industry showcased its latest offerings. The event traded some familiar international brands for a strong influx of Chinese models, signaling a new wave of competition and choice in the market.

Among the exhibitors, well-known Russian manufacturers stood alongside international and regional players. Names such as KAMAZ, NEFAZ, LIAZ, GAZ, PAZ, and KAVZ were on prominent display. The overall impression was clear: this important segment of the automotive market appears poised for a fresh energy boost, driven by both legacy producers and new entrants.

Despite expectations, the industry’s evolution did not hinge solely on electrification. The prevailing message was that internal combustion engines will remain in play for the foreseeable future, with a mix of conventional diesel and emerging powertrains continuing to power many fleets.

Among the notable introductions was the GAZ Sobol NN. As coverage from Za Rulem indicated earlier, these vehicles are already available in a van configuration through dealers, and the BW Expo showcased a minibus variant. The Sobol NN retains its familiar Cummins diesel option, while a locally sourced Chinese engine is expected to arrive in the near term. A defining feature is a mechanically transforming saloon: the two rear rows of seats glide on rails to reconfigure interior space. The combination of practicality and innovation made the model a standout at the event.

Seven thousand tires in standard sizes required for the fleet

Ensuring public safety and reliable service hinges on well-maintained fleets. The event underscored that tire availability in common sizes is a critical logistical factor for maintaining operations across public agencies and service fleets.

In a related effort, a charitable collaboration began to raise funds for tire procurement. A partnership between media and community groups supports the tire needs of public service vehicles, ambulances, emergency response units, and humanitarian transport in conflict-affected areas, as well as other essential fleet operations. The initiative invites public contributions to support these lifesaving and service-critical machines.

For those who want to contribute, information about the fundraising page is provided through the organizing partners and media coverage, including a recent video summary from MotorProject on YouTube showing highlights from the expo.
