AvtoVAZ has stated there are no plans to restart car production at the former GM-AVTOVAZ facility following its stake purchase in General Motors’ joint venture, now known as the Lada West Togliatti site, according to company chairman Maxim Sokolov.
He emphasized that there are no talks with international partners about organizing manufacturing at that site.
“He remains in reserve, a kind of silent strength. Even when he was with Renault-Nissan, or later Renault, he was the fifth wheel in the cart, yet at the same time this position represents a certain reserve of power,” Sokolov described the plant where Chevrolet Niva and Lada Niva Travel were once assembled.
