In May and June of 2023, AvtoVAZ announced plans to begin automobile production at the former Nissan facility in St. Petersburg. The official statement outlined a clear timetable for resuming car manufacturing in the city on the Neva, with the Lada brand set to roll off the lines during the late spring to early summer window. This move marks a significant step in AvtoVAZ’s reorganization strategy and signals the company’s renewed production capacity in Russia.
The company also reaffirmed an objective to produce more than 400,000 vehicles in 2023. During a corporate break period, AvtoVAZ plans to complete testing and verification across several components and parts sourced from new suppliers located in friendly nations. This testing phase is designed to ensure a smooth ramp up of the new assembly lines and to validate supply chain stability before full production continues on the main conveyor.
Earlier communications noted that AvtoVAZ would extend a temporary corporate shutdown for employees due to the prior shortage of automotive components. The current plan represents a shift from that pause as the company reallocates capacity and integrates fresh supplier partnerships to support ongoing output targets.
