In June, after a pause that followed the May holidays, AVTOVAZ restarted its car assembly operations. The initial model rolled out on the revived line was the Lada Granta in the Classic’22 configuration labeled as anti-crisis. These cars would ship without air conditioning, ABS, or airbags, yet would feature power windows on the front doors, European-style mirrors, and a heated windscreen.
The factory planned two eight-hour shifts, and until September a four-day work week would operate at the production site, according to Rossiya 1. AVTOVAZ signaled readiness to meet market demand with whatever volume the market could absorb.
Initial results after the restart showed a positive start for Volga’s auto giant. On the first day, June 8, only a modest number of vehicles were slated for assembly. The second shift’s output was uncertain, yet production continued into the evening, with about 165 units completed, as reported by Avtograd News. By the following day, totals exceeded 400 cars, and by the end of June the target was to reach 7,000 Granta family units produced.
- Other assembly lines at the plants in Tolyatti and Izhevsk remained inactive for the moment, but AVTOVAZ leadership indicated that Niva Legend and Niva Travel SUVs would resume production in July.
