AvtoVAZ Advances with Lada Largus Electric Planes and Pilot Production
AvtoVAZ is outlining a bold plan to begin mass production of the electric Lada Largus in the first half of 2024, according to Maxim Sokolov, the company’s chief executive, as reported by RIA Novosti. The company is setting a clear timetable for high volume output while continuing to develop the electric lineup that could redefine its offering in the market.
In addition to the broader production schedule, AvtoVAZ intends to roll out the first pilot batch of the Lada e-Largus at the Izhevsk plant during December. This staged approach allows the team to validate manufacturing processes, supply chains, and quality control before committing to full-scale production in more facilities. The emphasis on a December pilot aligns with the company’s goal of moving from concept to customer delivery with measurable milestones.
The spring preview of the pre-production e-Largus showcased a vehicle fitted with lithium-ion batteries and a 150 hp electric motor. On a single charge, the car is capable of traveling up to 400 km, reflecting a practical balance between range, efficiency, and affordability. Performance figures highlight acceleration to 100 km/h in under 10 seconds and a top speed of 145 km/h, signaling strong city and highway usability for a compact electric model. Such specifications place the e-Largus as a competitive option for daily commuting and longer trips within the mid‑range EV segment.
Evgeniy Shmelev, the Vice President of Engineering at AvtoVAZ, notes the potential to offer a family of electric vehicles built on the company’s core platforms. This strategy would leverage familiar architectures such as Vesta and Niva to extend the electric lineup while preserving engineering expertise and production efficiency. The approach suggests a cohesive roadmap where existing platforms can be adapted for electric propulsion, enabling faster development cycles and cost control for multiple models.
According to internal projections, Lada Largus models have been in high demand at dealerships. The sales momentum implies strong consumer interest in an affordable, practical electric option that aligns with the brand’s value proposition. The combination of a robust electric drivetrain, reliable platforms, and a price point that appeals to a broad audience could position the Largus as a meaningful player in the evolving compact EV segment. As production plans advance, the company will likely focus on scaling capacity, securing battery supply, and ensuring service networks are ready to support a growing electric vehicle portfolio.
