AvtoVAZ has outlined plans to begin production of an updated natural gas powered version of the Lada Vesta, with anticipated start in 2024. A high-ranking company official stated that the firm expects continued positive market momentum to support a broader rollout of gas-fueled models. The plan includes introducing two additional gas-powered vehicles in the following years, highlighting methane and compressed natural gas options as part of a next-generation lineup. The message from the executive emphasized that the upgraded Lada Vesta would lead the way in 2024, followed by the Lada Largus in 2025 as a second gas-powered model in the family.

The executive described a redesign for the Largus when equipped with a gas engine, noting that the engine layout would shift to place cylinders beneath the trunk area. This change aims to maximize trunk space and preserve cargo capacity for everyday use. It was also mentioned that the Granta already offers a gas-powered variant within the Lada range, with production plans for several thousand units this year, reflecting the company’s broader strategy to broaden the availability of low-emission powertrains across its model lineup.

Additionally, AvtoVAZ signaled readiness to resume sales of the Lada Vesta after the May refresh that updated some features and options. Earlier reports indicated that tariff adjustments and wage increases for employees would take effect from July, illustrating the ongoing adjustments within the company as it navigates market conditions. Management also highlighted ongoing participation in major economic forums, including a collaborative effort with a Chinese partner to advance a manufacturing project. A new conveyor line for vehicle assembly is already in operation at a plant in St. Petersburg, underscoring continued investment in production capability and regional manufacturing presence for coming years.
