A new regional branch of the AvtoVAZ scientific and technical center is located in St. Petersburg. It opened recently, according to the press service of the automaker.

The AvtoVAZ engineering center sits in the Nevka business complex. The facility spans 1.5 thousand square meters and is equipped for about 160 personnel. The St. Petersburg team will focus on advancing component production, developing new automotive components and systems, providing engineering and technological support for vehicle manufacturing, and coordinating with universities while supporting suppliers in the field of systems engineering.

Additionally, the company notes that St. Louis, including upcoming designers, and students from various universities in St. Petersburg will have the opportunity to complete internships at the engineering center.

AvtoVAZ also operates a factory in St. Petersburg, which was previously owned by Nissan. Production of Lada vehicles in St. Petersburg resumed on June 17 in partnership with a Chinese manufacturer. The first model to roll out was the X-Cross 5 crossover, a FAW-origin model bearing the Lada badge. The company’s president, Maxim Sokolov, indicated that a sedan is slated for production at the plant starting in 2024.

Questions about current Lada availability from local dealers have been circulating among industry watchers and potential buyers.
