AVTOVAZ seeks new partners for the St. Petersburg plant, including prospects for electric vehicle production
AVTOVAZ has signaled openness to welcoming fresh partners at its St. Petersburg facility, a site developed after the Nissan division ceased its operations in Russia. The company views the plant as a strategic hub with strong growth potential and is ready to explore collaborative projects that could expand its manufacturing footprint, including ventures into electric vehicles. This stance was communicated by Maxim Sokolov, the president of AVTOVAZ, during a recent meeting with Alexander Gurov, who leads the regional branch of the Union of Mechanical Engineers. The message from AVTOVAZ underscored the plant’s bright prospects and the company’s willingness to consider additional partner programs, even those centered on producing an electric car right in St. Petersburg.
In the past, AVTOVAZ outlined plans to assemble several Chinese-designed models at the St. Petersburg site, aiming to begin in the latter half of a previous year. The collaboration involved introducing Class C and D sedans that could carry either the Lada badge or a dual branding strategy in partnership with Chinese automakers. While market conditions and strategic priorities have continued to evolve, the core idea remains: leverage international partnerships to broaden product offerings and strengthen the plant’s output capabilities.
