AVTOVAZ Secures Asian Suppliers and Prepares for a Materials Build-Up
Suppliers of electronic components for AVTOVAZ have been identified, with the candidate firms coming from Asian countries, according to TASS, which cites Dmitry Azarov, the governor of the Samara region. This development aligns with earlier reporting that the Russian automotive giant would look to the Asian market for critical parts.
Azarov noted that while suppliers have been found, naming them publicly is unnecessary at this stage. He added that such negotiations are routinely flexible and subject to change as conditions evolve.
With AVTOVAZ employees on vacation, the company plans to accumulate stocks of materials and components during this downtime to enable a smooth transition to full-scale operations once the break ends.
Additionally, efforts are underway to optimize logistics and advance import substitution. The design teams are actively addressing these challenges to reduce dependency on external supply chains.
Earlier reports indicated that AVTOVAZ postponed a planned summer holiday window from April 4 to 24. The company also announced a shift to a four-day workweek for three months starting June 6, a response to the ongoing crisis in the component supply chain.
AVTOVAZ operates two production sites in Togliatti and Izhevsk, assembling vehicles and parts for two brands, Lada and Renault. In the prior year, Lada accounted for 20.9% of the Russian passenger car and light commercial vehicle market. (Source: TASS via Governor Azarov)
