Changan Unveils Avatr 12 Hatchback in China with Premium Tech and Bold Design
Changan has begun sales of the new Avatr 12 hatchback in China, according to carnewschina. The model is offered in three trim levels, with an introductory price around 301,000 yuan (roughly 43,000 USD at current exchange rates).
Externally, the Avatr 12 cuts a striking silhouette thanks to slim LED lighting, bold bumper styling, and camera-based mirrors instead of traditional side mirrors. A panoramic glass roof spanning 2.57 square meters adds an open, airy feel to the cabin. Inside, a 35.4-inch diagonal widescreen display dominates the cockpit, backed by a 27‑speaker audio system. The interior finishes emphasize wood and leather materials, underscoring a premium feel throughout the cabin. The vehicle also features an advanced autopilot system with 29 sensors for assisted driving.
In size terms, the Avatr 12 sits in the same league as the Porsche Panamera and the BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe. It measures 5020 mm in length and is powered by two electric motors, one on each axle, delivering a combined output of 578 horsepower. The car is advertised with a driving range of about 700 kilometers on a full charge.
Avatr has been on the scene since 2021. It is a joint venture that brings together Huawei, which develops software for the multimedia system, Changan, and CATL, which supplies the traction batteries. This collaboration aims to blend high-end connectivity with strong battery performance for a refined electric driving experience.
