Autumn pricing trends in the automotive market
Official manufacturer sites show prices for several mass market foreign models rising as autumn 2022 began. While many brands kept spring level suggested prices, finding new cars in stock at those levels became increasingly difficult across the market.
For example, the basic Hyundai Solaris sedan rose to 1,408,000 rubles as of October 12, up 163,000 rubles since early September, according to the automaker. In the same period, the Hyundai Tucson crossover increased by 230,000 rubles, while the Santa Fe remained around 4 million rubles, with no price change since at least July.
The most affordable Volkswagen Polo neared 1.7 million rubles in dealer stock. Within the 1.7–1.8 million ruble range, the Polo (Respect trim, 1.6 engine, manual) was mainly available in Mineralnye Vody, Vladimir, Syktyvkar, and Magnitogorsk.
Stock availability and regional dispersion
Automaker online sales sections show Moscow dealers listing only four Polos between 1.7 and 1.8 million rubles. Total Polo stock in Moscow is shown as 256 units, though actual availability may differ from reported figures. The priciest Polo in the city is listed at 3.7 million rubles.
Other models in the same segment include the Volkswagen Taos priced at 2.4–4 million rubles (221 units), the Tiguan at 2.8–7.3 million rubles (278 units), and the Touareg with around 85 units. A price range between 8.7 and 16.5 million rubles is listed for certain configurations. The official Volkswagen price list for the broader range has remained unchanged since early August.
Skoda Rapid starts around 1.6 million rubles, with basic 90 hp versions on display. The top-end Skoda models approach 3.2 million rubles, while the Kodiaq in fully equipped trims ranges from 6 to 6.2 million rubles. Roughly 74 Superb variants remain in stock, priced between 3.6 and 5.7 million rubles.
Kia prices had not updated since the summer. A compact Picanto can be listed at a minimum of 1.3 million rubles, though many dealers quote no less than 1.4 million. The Rio sedan, long a best seller, is marked at no less than 1.4 million rubles, with just over 100 cars currently available in Moscow and the surrounding region. The Seltos SUV stock tops 260 units in the same region, and even the most affordable 1.6 engine manual variant starts around 2 million rubles.
Discounts and promotions
Updated Mitsubishi Outlander prices have held steady since spring, starting near 2.7 million rubles. The Pajero Sport saw a price bump of 390,000 rubles to 4.9 million. Official sources show 31 such SUVs in dealer networks across Russia, totaling 94 units available through Mitsubishi channels.
Mazda offers more than 1,100 CX-5, CX-6, and CX-9 vehicles priced between 2.6 and 5.7 million rubles, plus 42 Mazda 6 sedans (2.7–4.0 million) and 67 Mazda CX-9s (4.7–5.7 million). Geely and Chery run consumer promotions including credits up to around 220,000 rubles under proprietary programs and interest-free installments without a down payment for select models.
Stock outlook toward early spring
Overall price levels for new cars in the Russian market have stayed steady in recent months. A top executive at a major dealer group noted that if shipments remain limited, showroom stock could last two to four months. Discounts of up to 4 million rubles have begun to surface in the auto sector.
Demand cooled somewhat from the summer peak but remained steady. Prospective buyers still call dealers to inquire about live offers, and some shoppers postpone purchases. Parallel imports are supporting the market with models like Range Rover, Land Rover Defender, Range Rover Sport, the new Jeep Grand Cherokee, the new Volkswagen ID6 electric, and the Audi Q5 E-tron arriving in showrooms, according to industry sources.
Analysts observed that 2022 brought a shift in the structure of the new-car market. Russians prioritized utilitarian needs, favoring the secondary market, Chinese brands, and domestic options such as Lada, which were still produced or distributed locally. The mix of corporate sales, including taxi fleets and car-sharing services, rose while private buyer demand softened.
Market watchers expect prices to hold at roughly April levels despite near-term currency depreciation. If government programs stimulate Lada sales, some showrooms may feature more accessible pricing, though dealers often price many models higher than consumer expectations.
