In August, Avtostat reported that China supplied the largest share of new cars, accounting for 67.2 percent of imports.
The next major sources were:
- South Korea, with an 8.7 percent share
- Kazakhstan, 3.9 percent
- United Arab Emirates, 3.7 percent
- Japan, 3.6 percent
August also saw 23.3 thousand used cars imported. The dominant supplier for used vehicles was Japan, which provided 76 percent of the total imports for that month.
Used cars coming from abroad mainly arrive through private buyers rather than businesses. In January, individuals accounted for 3 percent of new car imports, rising to 23 percent by August. Meanwhile, used car imports from abroad are predominantly driven by private individuals. In January, 96 percent were imported by individuals, and in August this figure climbed to 99 percent. Notably, the overall number of used car imports has nearly doubled since the start of the year.
These trends reflect ongoing shifts in the market where private buyers play a growing role in cross border vehicle movement, while the mix of supplier countries for new vehicles shows a strong reliance on Asia with Japan and Korea among the notable suppliers. The data highlights the evolving dynamics of trade and the rising influence of individual buyers in the regional car market. [Source: Avtostat]
