August Traffic Forecast on Toll Roads Sees Rise Along with Roadwork Alerts
Across the toll road network managed by the state owned company, traffic congestion is projected to climb by at least 10% in August, according to Avtodor. In July, passenger car traffic already rose to 40% above levels seen in June, signaling busier roads as summer travel continues.
Analysts anticipate motorists will pass through toll plazas and the free flow system more than 30 million times during August, underscoring a sustained peak period for travel and highway usage.
Peak highway congestion is expected on Saturday the 13th and Saturday the 20th of August. This pattern reflects the large influx of vehicles heading toward Moscow on the second and third Saturdays of August as vacationers begin to return home while others continue trips south for holidays. For travelers planning a vacation, departing from Moscow on Sunday or Monday may help avoid the heaviest loads on weekends.
Alongside higher congestion, accident frequency is rising. Avtodor urges drivers to exercise extreme caution, adhere to traffic rules, and avoid driving tired or under the influence. Each mishap slows traffic not only the participants but also surrounding motorists who become stuck in the aftermath.
Avtodor notes that the main southbound route is currently undergoing active construction on the M-4 Don. By next year, traffic is expected to flow more smoothly around Rostov-on-Don via the planned Aksai bypass, improving routes for long-distance travel and regional commerce.
