The Atom project is advancing a domestic electric car initiative aimed at reshaping the urban mobility landscape in Russia. The information comes from KamAZ’s press service, providing an overview of the ambitious direction the company is taking.

KamAZ notes that global trends are shifting toward new energy sources, and the company is positioning itself to ride this wave of technological change. With insights attributed to Sergey Kogogin, the Chief Executive Officer of KamAZ PJSC, the firm confirms its commitment to developing electric transport and contributing to the growth of this field. The emphasis is on aligning with international momentum while strengthening domestic capabilities in propulsion technology and vehicle engineering.

According to the plan, the prototype of the new electric car was slated for creation in May 2023, with the aim of making such vehicles available for use starting in 2024. The update reflects KamAZ’s strategy to accelerate research and pilot programs that demonstrate practical viability and pave the way for broader adoption within urban transportation networks.

Earlier announcements indicated that sales of the new Russian electric vehicle Atom were expected to commence in 2025. The lineup is described as featuring four distinct versions: a compact two-door city model named Duo, a family-oriented configuration called Family, a dedicated taxi variant, and a delivery-focused model. Across these variants, the objective is to deliver a maximum driving range of about 500 kilometers on a single charge, balancing urban practicality with the needs of longer commutes and service use. The projected range underscores KamAZ’s intent to offer a versatile electric platform capable of meeting varied municipal and commercial applications while advancing energy efficiency and domestic manufacturing capabilities.
