The attempt on the life of the head of the largest poultry farm in Russia’s Voronezh region failed due to a misstep by the attacker. Reports citing the Shot Telegram channel say the owner, Gennady Shiryaev, took the wheel himself, and the shooter directed fire into the rear area of the SUV, where the businessman typically sits behind the wheel.

According to available details, Shiryaev, a former regional Duma deputy, was returning home in the evening on December 27 when an unidentified assailant fired twice at his Volkswagen along the Kursk-Saratov highway, about two kilometers from his residence. The incident occurred near the village of Tretyaki. After the shots, the shooter fled the scene. Shiryaev was not harmed and was alone in the vehicle at the time.

Authorities have activated the Stop plan in the Borisoglebsk region as they search for the shooter. Notably, two days prior to the attack, the Federal Antimonopoly Service filed a lawsuit against Shiryaev’s company over a rise in egg prices, adding a potential dimension to the incident.

Earlier reports noted that the Russian weighted average wholesale price for chicken eggs in the Volgograd region had risen significantly in December, by 45 to 100 percent compared with October levels.

In a separate incident previously reported, a man dressed in a Santa Claus costume was involved in a confrontation with a driver in Khabarovsk, highlighting that tension and unexpected events have recently affected public safety headlines.
