The firm behind the new protective camouflage system, known as Shield, is Armaks.
According to the organization’s general director, Mikhail Zakroev, the Shield concept has undergone testing and demonstrated high effectiveness.
Shield is a film that cloaks objects, whether armored vehicles or fortifications. The surrounding environment is projected onto the film, making the covered item hard to detect visually. Zakroev likens the effect to wearing a fake lens that hides the real shape.
The technology enables Shield to conceal thermal signatures so that thermographic cameras cannot identify the objects beneath it. A drone can fly over, scan the terrain, and locate a person, but if the person is beneath Shield, the drone will not see them. Even when viewed from higher angles, including space, the concealed items remain undetectable. The company’s chief executive notes this effect as remarkable and almost magical in its impact (TASS).
Next steps for Armaks involve presenting a formal proposal for additional testing and potential deliveries of the Shield camouflage film to the Russian Federation’s defense department.
