Anti-hangover medications do not influence the results of a driver’s medical examination. In this context, the head of the department of drug addiction and substance abuse at the Russian National Research Medical University named after N.I. Pirogov, an associate professor and candidate of medical sciences, Lev Blagov, outlined the position clearly.

Blagov stated that alcohol consumption and the use of anti-hangover remedies do not excuse someone from the responsibility of operating a vehicle if a metabolic hangover is present. In other words, feeling fine does not guarantee safety behind the wheel, and the law may still view a driver as being under the influence when evidence supports metabolite presence in the body.

The medical professional emphasized that even when a driver subjectively feels normal, objective tests can reveal alcohol metabolites in the biological environment. Such evidence provides law enforcement with grounds to consider that the driver was operating a vehicle under the influence, regardless of personal perception.

This is especially relevant around major holidays when people may be tempted to drink. The discussion underscores the importance of understanding that post-drinking remedies do not erase the potential risks or the legal consequences of driving after consuming alcohol.

Historically, there have been discussions in Russia about ways to clear one’s mind after excessive drinking during celebrations like New Year. Medical professionals have repeatedly warned about the dangers and the potential for unexpected health surprises when alcohol is involved. The message remains consistent: safety on the road takes precedence over feeling well after a night of drinking.
