Almaz-Antey plans to launch production of L-type electric microcars at the former Toyota plant in St. Petersburg, according to Mikhail Podvyaznikov, deputy general director of RIA Novosti and chief executive of Obukhov Plant JSC. The company intends to introduce smaller L-type vehicles, with a formal presentation at the old Toyota factory scheduled for May 25-26. The first unit will be on display, and production aims to reach 10,000 to 14,000 units. This move comes as the firm continues to promote electric vehicle manufacturing across its operations.

The L-type electric microcar features a fast battery swap option, a top speed of 90 km/h, and a single-charge range of 183 km. Its design targets use in warehousing and delivery, retail and medical networks, and operations in tight urban spaces, including shared mobility and municipal services. The plan calls for starting production in 2024 with an initial output of about 2,000 cars per year, followed by gradual expansion to between 10,000 and 12,000 units annually by 2029.

Earlier reports noted that the typical price of a Chinese automobile in Russia rose fivefold since 2021. This context highlights ongoing interest in compact, budget-friendly electric options for urban and commercial applications as manufacturers explore new production sites and market opportunities across Russia.
