Roam Unveils Air: An Agile, Lightweight Electric Motorcycle for Everyday Ruggedness
Roam, a Nairobi-based company known for its electric buses and broader EV lineup, has introduced the Air motorcycle. The design focuses on practicality: a lightweight metal frame, off-road wheels, a double saddle, and a large storage box where a traditional gas tank would sit.
Powering the Air is the Engine Sky system, capable of delivering a peak torque of 185 Nm. With a curb weight of 135 kg, the motorcycle can accelerate to its top speed of about 90 km/h in roughly five seconds. Riders can select from five riding modes, and the bike includes a reverse gear for tighter urban maneuvers.
The bike’s payload specification stands at 220 kg, and it can travel up to 90 kilometers on a single charge. The Air is designed to accommodate either one or two batteries. Using two batteries extends the range to as much as 180 kilometers, making it a versatile option for mixed commuting and off-road trips.
Pricing for the Air varies by battery configuration: one battery starts around $1,500 (roughly 90,000 rubles), while a two-battery setup is closer to $2,050 (about 123,000 rubles). At present, sales of these motorcycles are not available in Russia, at least for the near term.
