In the US state of Florida, gasoline is purchased in bulk before Hurricane Milton; Almost 1,500 gas stations in the state ran out of fuel. This was reported by CNN.
“Demand for gasoline has increased sharply as some residents try to refuel before evacuating. Those who plan to stay put are trying to fill their gas tanks to power their generators in the event of a prolonged power outage.”
There are 7,500 gas stations in Florida.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis tried to contain the panic. He said the state’s reserves include 110,000 gallons of gasoline and 268,000 gallons of diesel. Additionally, 1.2 million gallons of both fuels currently flow into the state. DeSantis said he was escorting 27 fuel trucks from the Florida Highway Patrol to distribute fuel to stations in the expected impact area of the storm.
The release notes that a hurricane could cause serious damage to the port of Tampa, where most of the gasoline comes from.
