South Korea has halted supplies of lithium-ion batteries to Russia, including those used in electric vehicles, under new sanctions. This decision has an impact on Russia’s main supplier of Korean batteries, Enertech, which has been under the control of Rosatom since 2022, the publication states. “Kommersant”.

The material ban could make it difficult for the state company’s assembly shops in Russia that use Korean batteries. Analysts say the ban will encourage investment in development and suggest that South Korean authorities may allow supplies to certain entities.

In September 2023, it became known that the Renera company will begin construction of another gigafactory with a capacity of 4 GWh per year in the Krasnaya Pakhra settlement in the Troitsky administrative district of Moscow. According to the mayor’s office, Renera signed an agreement with the State Unitary Enterprise Mosgortrans for the supply of more than 155 thousand traction batteries for electric buses and electric vehicles under the Moskvich brand.

Initially, it was planned to hold a competition for this contract, but the tender did not take place. Rosatom also has plans for vehicle production: in 2022, Renera acquired a stake of 6.2 billion rubles in JSC Kama, which aims to produce electric vehicles under the Atom brand.
