Automaker Audi has decided to extend the life of its flagship A8 model rather than replacing it with a new electric car. In this respect he is writing German magazine Auto Motor und Sport cites a brand representative.
Audi was supposed to replace the A8 with an electric sedan in 2024, but the company’s plans have changed. The decision to cancel the launch of the new flagship was influenced by the high sales of the petrol model in the key Chinese market. In this context, Audi plans to expand the project and prepare a new redesign for the A8. This means that the new flagship will not appear before 2027. It is expected to be built on the largest variation of the PPE platform. Another version of this is already used in the Porsche Macan EV crossover.
The A8 model was released in 2017 and is planned to be updated in 2021. The vehicle is very successful in the Chinese market, but in Europe it sells two and a half times worse than the Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
