Most alcohol analyzers have proven unsuitable for measuring the alcohol content in a driver’s body. In this respect reported “Behind the Wheel” auto experts Mikhail Kolodochkin and Alexey Revin. They tested a dozen breathalyzers, the price of which ranged from 700 to 12 thousand rubles. and discovered that although the law indicates the alcohol content (for exhalation – 0.16 mg/l; for blood – 0.3 g/l) most of them not only show false indicators, but also give results in ppm.

“Unfortunately, alcohol analyzers often give measurement results in ppm. Such units use Dingo and Alcogran devices. In our example we also found devices using g/l units; This is how breathalyzer and Alcohol tester work. Although all alcohol analyzers measure exhalation and do not analyze the composition of blood, we must assume that we are talking about grams divided by liters,” Revin said.

The auto expert added that to get relatively accurate results, you can try recalculating the exhalation parameters based on the blood standard and vice versa. It is enough to ignore the units of measurement and multiply the exhalation standards by 2. Then the 0.12 mg/l exhaled will turn into approximately 0.24 g/l in the blood. Revin added that it wasn’t a completely accurate result, but it was quick.
