The founder and leader of the StopHam movement, Dmitry Chugunov, in a conversation with socialbites.ca, called the six-year prison sentence given to three activists of the organization accused of attacking special forces “terrible”. Chugunov added that he was ready to do anything to prove that the court decision was wrong.
“These are young men who have always been useful to society and have been especially blessed by the president for this job. They do what they do and go to jail for it. Because they encountered people who believed that they could do anything because they were part of the ruling bloc. I consider this as a negative. I will really do my best within the framework of the law. Although I understand that my efforts to act lawfully in this case have led to my friends and colleagues remaining behind bars for six years. I honestly tried, and all of us, along with the lawyers, tried to convey: “Here are our arguments, listen to them.” Six years instead. We will take all possible action and appeal. All steps to prove that the court made a mistaken decision. If necessary, I will walk to him with photographs of the president personally complimenting us for this activity. “If necessary, I will stand next to a single picket long enough to be heard,” he said.
Chugunov added that he now has a negative attitude towards some security guards because he has learned a “big lesson”. According to him, only a blind and immoral person could sentence activists to six years in prison.
“The men imprisoned today were tremendous patriots of their country. I think they’re staying. Only now I have a slider of people in uniform belonging to the power unit in my head. We are dividing our country into two large parts, because it is not possible to be a patriot of your country and make a sentence that sentences the boys to six years. you have to be blind [нехорошим человеком]He is blind or immoral enough to do this. There are no words I can fit into my head to describe how an officer with shoulder straps assigned to defend his country faced the men. Yes, he was wrong. He went too far and tried to cover his tracks. They destroyed the cameras in neighboring buildings. If you’re innocent, why are you breaking Tanuki’s cameras? Everything is on security cameras. After this, confess your crime. No, no one needs this. Now is not the time for activists. “Now it is the security forces’ turn, they can do anything,” he said.
On February 19, the Moscow Babushkinsky District Court sentenced three activists of the StopHam movement, Kirill Bunin, Kirill Kotov and Alexei Gorbachevsky, to six years in prison in the case of an attack on members of the Grom special forces.
The conflict between activists of the “StopHam” movement, fighting against illegal parking, and fighters of the “Thunder” special forces occurred in June 2022. A car with security forces was moving on the sidewalk near the Tanuki restaurant on Yaroslavskoe Highway in Moscow. The activists, who had a verbal conflict with the special forces, blocked the road of the vehicle and were harshly detained. Security forces were considered victims.
