The minimum cost of a new foreign car in Russia, currently 2.8 million rubles, may increase to 3-3.2 million rubles in 2024. In this respect report Ivestia cites auto expert Roman Soldatov.

“When we talk about changes in car prices, we must of course also take into account the ruble exchange rate. The main currency is the dollar, so the higher its value, the higher the car prices. This primarily concerns parallel imports. The second factor is the recycling fee, new rates add 300 thousand rubles and more to the cost of the car. The third factor is New Year’s discounts. Everything that dealers discounted during the holidays now needs to be collected, which means that these discounts will most likely have to be compensated by increasing prices,” said Soldatov.

Before that, the Ministry of Industry and Trade announced that the Russian automobile market would begin to recover and the sales level could reach 1.3 million units in 2024. The department stated that the sales volume in 2026 will correspond to the average annual sales volume in 2015-2021. The market will gradually grow by 1% per year from 2027. Thus, by 2030 the Russian automobile market will reach the level of 1.8 million cars per year, and by 2035 the sales volume will reach 1.9 million cars per year.

Also, for the first time in 2023, China Will be It is the world’s largest automobile exporter, thanks to growth in supplies to the Russian and Mexican markets. China supplied 730 thousand vehicles to Russia in the first 11 months of 2023. This is seven times more than in the same period in 2022.
