A vehicle parked in an open car park in winter may experience air conditioner, compressor, battery failure, as well as brake system problems in the spring. Deputy Chairman of the National Automobile Union (NAU) Jan Heitzer told socialbites.ca about this.

“If you park your car only in winter and do not use it until spring, problems may arise. For example, air conditioning pipes and the compressor are lubricated with oil. When idle it flows downward, the tubes can dry out, causing the system to depressurize. Lack of lubrication leads to compressor failure. “In addition, the plates may break down and fail due to deep discharge of the battery,” he said.

According to Heitzer, when a car is parked for a long time in winter, brake discs and drums can rust, calipers can go sour, and pads can lose mobility. Pipes, gaskets and silent blocks made of rubber and plastic begin to age faster, lose their properties and crack due to inactivity.

If the car is not new, not only the paint will be damaged. Condensation penetrating the interior accumulates in the gaps and destroys the body from the inside. The smell of dampness often appears. And you can only “expel” moisture from the car by systematically heating it. The expert explained that oils poured into the power unit or transmission also age and the additives stop working regardless of whether the car is running or not.
