Since September 2023, driving with summer tires in winter is considered an offense and is punishable by a fine. Deputy Director of the Roskachestvo Department for the Protection of Consumer Rights and Improvement of the Quality of Financial Services Igor Pozdnyakov recalled this, according to reports RT.

“Now, according to Part 1 of Art. 12.5 of the Administrative Code, in case of such a violation you can receive an administrative fine,” explained the expert.

He noted that the fine was 500 rubles. According to Pozdnyakov, it is recommended to wear winter tires when the average daily air temperature is +4…+5 degrees.

A representative of Roskachestvo emphasized that summer tires “get dull” on cold asphalt, making travel dangerous even on dry road. He also advised drivers to replace windshield washer fluid with antifreeze and have their tires balanced.

October 21, Roman Vilfand, scientific director of the Russian Hydrometeorological Center Recommended Muscovites should replace their summer tires with winter tires.
