Mercedes-Benz has become the first automaker to conduct public crash testing of two electric vehicles. In this respect reports company press service.
During testing, the automaker simulated a real head-on crash between the EQA hatchback and the EQS crossover with a 50 percent overlap. Following the impact, the systems of both electric vehicles showed reliability: the high-voltage traction battery and the conventional battery remained intact, and the vehicles’ electrical systems were automatically de-energized.
The interior cage also retained its integrity: the doors of both cars could be opened. The test scenario simulated a typical accident during unsuccessful overtaking on a country road. The speed chosen for the collision took into account the driver’s attempt to brake at the last moment before the crash.
