According to a study provided to socialbites.ca by VSK Insurance House, the most popular among car thieves in Russia in the first nine months of 2023 were Hyundai, Kia and Mitsubishi cars.
“According to the results of 9 months of 2023, the Hyundai brand has become the most popular brand among car thieves in Russia, accounting for 31% of the total number of thefts. The anti-rating also included Kia (24%) and Mitsubishi (7%). At the same time, the most popular model among thieves was the Kia K5 (14% of cases) as well as the Hyundai Palisade and Hyundai Santa Fe crossovers. In the premium car segment, the Genesis G80 and Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class were stolen the most. Among Chinese cars, Chery Tiggo is the leader in thefts,” states the study, based on analysis of insurance claims.
It is stated that 45 percent of the thefts in Moscow took place in the third quarter of this year. The top three also included the Moscow region and the Samara region (10% each). The most common victims of car thieves this year were corporate fleets; 52% of cases.
