Hyundai workers in Korea prepare to strike

Union workers at Korean automaker Hyundai have been granted strike permission, raising the likelihood of a first strike in five years due to low wages. In this respect informs Reuters.

Hyundai Motor Union said in a statement that the National Labor Relations Commission (a government agency that handles labor disputes in South Korea) paved the way for strikes at the nation’s leading automaker’s factories. The commission acknowledged that there were major differences between Hyundai management and the union.

If the strike does happen, it will be the first such action in five years on wage negotiations. The strike could cost Hyundai 1 trillion won (71.5 billion rubles) and cut the supply of popular Hyundai car models.
