The departure of the American concern from the Russian Federation is quite natural. First, due to a drop in sales, they closed in 2015 and sold a factory in Russia. Now the US government has banned the import of cars into our country, leaving General Motors no choice. And this is the first automaker that has not only stopped operating in Russia, but also exited the country’s market.
The supply of not only cars but also spare parts will be stopped, causing a commotion in the market – people will start buying spare parts and consumables for future use. The company is also firing all its employees who have worked in Russia.
The losses of the outgoing group are small. This year for example GM sold only 266 Chevrolets and 162 Cadillacs. In Russia, European and Japanese representatives of the premium (and non-premium) segment are clearly preferred.
“GM has decided to extend measures to stop operations in Russia,” the group said in a statement.
