According to the results of 2022, the volume of the Russian market of new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles will be at best 800-850 thousand vehicles, which represents a decrease of about 50% compared to 2021, this prediction was made by Alexei Kalitsev, head of Hyundai Motor CIS and also chairman of the Committee of Automobile Manufacturers Association of European Businesses (AEB).

“In the next quarter there will be clarity about the stocks. I do not expect a significant improvement in the situation in the second quarter. The second quarter will be a period in which all existing issues are resolved. He made a statement at the annual convention of the Russian Car Dealers Association, which will take place on April 20 in Moscow.

Recall that at the end of 2021 1.67 million new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles were sold in Russia, the momentum compared to 2020 is plus 4.3%.

In January-March 2022, 277,332 new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles were sold in the Russian Federation, a decrease of minus 28.4% from January-March 2021. Separately for March 2022, the collapse of the Russian car market was minus 62.9% – this was offset by the tightening of Western sanctions against Russia and related disruptions in the supply of parts to car factories, which left most of them in prolonged unplanned downtime.
