Our story

Social Bites is a food and community magazine. We write about cooking at home, hosting people around a table, and eating well in Canada and the places that inspire our kitchens.

The name has a history. In Vancouver, a project called Social Bites sent ticket holders through the homes of hobby chefs, and later organised a charity dinner night called DinnerPartyYVR. We think the idea behind it still holds: food is better, and more useful, when it brings people together. You can read what we know about that project on the history page.

How we work

  • Written by people, for people. Every article is written and edited by a person who cooks. We would rather be specific and a bit opinionated than generic.
  • Practical first. If a tip needs special equipment, we say so. If it does not work for a small kitchen, we say that too.
  • Honest sourcing. Health and safety statements are checked against public guidance from health authorities. We flag where evidence is thin.
  • Corrections welcome. If we got something wrong, write to us and we will fix it and note the change.

This is a new editorial project that uses the socialbites.ca domain. It is not operated by the people who ran the original Vancouver Social Bites events.
