Scientists of Novosibirsk State University (NSU) have developed and successfully tested a new unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) model designed for operational delivery of goods to challenging areas. Message about this appeared On the official website of the university.
The test flight showed the drone’s capabilities: the device overcomes 4.5 kilometers along the OB river within five minutes and successfully conveyed the load to the target.
The development of NSU is made using 3D printing technology. The Drone’s work is based on the logic of actions, as well as flight management, as well as the software developed at the university responsible for the processing of the video signal and data from sensors. To determine coordinates, the device uses the technical vision method created at the university. In the future, it is planned to develop by introducing neural networks that will allow the drone to determine the location more accurately and reduce dependence on satellite navigation systems (GPS).
At the current stage, the device can transfer cargo with a weight of 500 grams. During the tests, the drone gave a series of drugs. It is stated that UAV can be operated in most weather conditions, except for strong rainfall and stormy winds.
The university emphasizes the social importance of development showing the potential of giving goods to settlements with limited transportation accessibility. An example of such a region is the Nizhnekamemen Village Council in the Novosibirsk region where the tests were performed. In the spring, when the ice closure and ferry message passing through OB are not yet installed, the inhabitants are actually cut from a floor message for up to two weeks. The use of the drone allows you to directly deliver the necessary goods directly from the river village directly across the river, directly opposite the river. There are many similar areas where transportation accessibility is limited for various reasons.
