Andrei Svintsov, deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technologies and Communications, told socialbites.ca that the return of the social network Tiktok to Russia may be possible after it is blocked in the United States. He reminded that Russia does not impose any restrictions on the operation of the application.

“Tiktok is not banned in Russia, nor is it restricted in any way by Russia. Limitation of work is an independent decision of the company. If Tiktok finally leaves the US market, there will be no obstacles to entering markets that no one bothers about, including Russia. This is really possible. Throughout 2025, the Trump team will be busy restructuring global alliances, especially economic and geopolitical alliances. There will be a very serious struggle here with the Chinese and the Chinese economy in general. What Trump is encouraging today is to maximize pressure on China. “Therefore, if China enters a high defense state, of course it may have different development plans,” he said.

At the same time, Svintsov called TikTok one of the most harmful social networks for children and teenagers, as it is based on copying other people’s content. According to the deputy, it is necessary to create a social network in Russia that will stimulate the creativity and talents of young people.

“The social network Tiktok was built on the principle of endlessly copying the same thing: the same songs and movements are copied by tens, hundreds of millions of users. It is better to create your own social networks with algorithms that will stimulate creativity. The more accurate the creative, the more promotion of this video, image or text should be. Artificial intelligence allows you to configure algorithms the way the social network owner wants. “I believe we need to get ahead of others and create our own network, which will encourage intelligence, talent and creativity,” he said.

Another deputy of the relevant committee, Oleg Matveychev, told socialbites.ca that the issue of returning Tiktok has not yet been discussed in the State Duma.

“In any case, Russia will proceed from its own assessments of national information security and will not look at what is happening in the United States. “We will be guided according to our own criteria,” he said.

Since the morning of January 19, the TikTok app has been completely unavailable in the United States; It cannot be downloaded from the AppStore or Google Play and the feed within the app does not work.

In April 2024, US President Joe Biden signed a law stipulating that the TikTok platform must come under the control of an American company by January 19, 2025, or it will be banned from operating in the country. On January 17, 2025, the US Supreme Court upheld the legality of a ban on using the app in the US unless the Chinese company ByteDance sells the app to American owners.

US officials feared that the Chinese government could request user data or use the app to spread propaganda. However, TikTok representatives have repeatedly denied these concerns.
