Cable journalists working with the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) found signs of cellphone surveillance during the 2024 Democratic National Convention. The EFF study was based on analysis of wireless data signals collected by journalists at convention venues and offices. about this reports Published by Gizmodo.
The analysis revealed anomalies indicating the possible use of a station simulator (cellular simulator) that can capture and store data from connected mobile phones, including location information, call metadata, and application Internet traffic. Equipped with special software to detect such anomalies, one of the journalists’ phones suddenly switched to an unknown tower, made an IMSI (International Subscriber Identity) request, and the connection was immediately disconnected; this was a set of actions specific to a base station simulator.
Although the EFF cannot say for certain that the simulator was used, the data obtained constitutes serious evidence of possible surveillance by members of the US Democratic Party, according to Gizmodo.
