The new technology center in St. Petersburg will be the largest in the North-West of Russia and will become a center of attraction for the region’s specialized IT community. Sberbank’s chairman, German Gref, announced this at the opening of a technohub in the Vasileostrovsky district of the Northern capital.
The head of the company said that more than 2.6 thousand jobs were created in the technohub. In the new building with an area of 35 thousand square meters. Sber’s IT teams, who previously worked in various facilities in St. Petersburg, have already moved in. These are developers, testers, analysts, support specialists, DevOps engineers, data scientists and product owners in key business areas of the bank.
In parallel with the placement of new buildings, the infrastructure of the area will develop: a fitness center, cafes, restaurants, public areas and services will appear.
“For us, this is an opportunity to create new jobs in the region and a magnet for talented IT specialists to develop technological services and products that will be used by millions of Russians,” German Gref said.
As the head of Sberbank explained, the technohub was designed so that its territory remains accessible to residents and guests of St. Petersburg.
During the reconstruction, the authors of the project took into account the historical significance of the location and created a technological space, preserving the original appearance of the buildings.
Present at the opening of the Technohub, St. Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov noted that the new facility on Vasilievsky Island will be a place where the best minds in the field of IT will come together, new ideas will be born and advanced technologies will emerge. It will be developed in a way that will make the lives of Russians more comfortable and safe.
“The opening of the Sberbank technology center is not only the emergence of a new IT space in our city, but also a strong signal that St. Petersburg is ready to consolidate its position as one of the leading digital innovation centers in Russia,” Beglov said.
Sber previously opened technology centers in Yekaterinburg and Kazan.
