The 12GB of RAM is expected to be useful for handling more advanced Apple Intelligence (AI) features. This version seems reasonable since the same iPhone 15 and 15 Plus do not support current AI features, but the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max with more RAM do.
As MacRumors writes, this insider’s source has a long history. He previously predicted that the iPhone 7 would be water-resistant and that the standard iPhone 14 models would use the A15 Bionic chip, while the more advanced A16 chip would only appear in the iPhone 14 Pro models.
