There is a surge in sales of routers with VPN in Russia. However, it is not always wise to buy them; major providers are fighting them and blocking them. warned Denis Kuskov, CEO of Telecom Daily agency, in a conversation with NSN.
Earlier it was reported that due to the slowdown in YouTube, the demand for WiFi routers with VPN installed among Russians has increased by 40%. Kuskov confirmed such data and added that we are not talking about simple routers, but about equipment that requires the installation of special software that will change the user’s location indicating that he is not in Russia.
“Many major providers combat this by blocking protocols so that such routers cannot be used. So it is quite possible that you will buy such a router today, and tomorrow it will stop working,” the expert explained.
He emphasized that when deciding on such a purchase, you should remember that there is no guarantee; it is not a fact that the device will work for a certain period of time. All these are unjustifiably high risks; you will either have to call a specialist or install the software yourself.
“No one can guarantee that it will work throughout the entire period,” Kuskov stressed.
Before that It became clearThe slowdown in video hosting on YouTube has aroused Russians’ interest in domestic and less popular foreign services. So, since August 1, the number of search queries bearing the name of the Chinese video service Bilibil has increased sharply. The number of search queries to the American video hosting site Vimeo has doubled in the same period. The number of requests mentioning Rutube has tripled.
