The assembly of an experimental sample of a domestic photonic processor will begin in August and will be completed by the end of 2024. In a conversation about this, RIA Novosti project participant and professor of the Department of Technical Cybernetics of the Samara University named after Korolev Roman Skidanov.
It is stated that the processor can process information hundreds of times faster than modern digital neural networks based on traditional semiconductor computers.
“The implementation of our project is going as planned, the creation of an experimental sample of the photonic processor is currently at the stage of body assembly,” Skidanov said.
He also added that experts decided to use a different type of diode laser in the experimental sample, which has less consistency and will increase the processor’s performance.
Before that, physicists from the Saratov National Research State University named after NG. Chernyshevsky (SSU) together with colleagues was created thin multilayer films that could be the basis of alternative electronics. They will increase the speed of microprocessors and the memory capacity of modern hard drives. Magnetic states will serve as information carriers in devices based on such films.
