Cybercriminals have targeted users of the popular game Hamster Kombat. Experts have detected malware disguised as legitimate apps for Android and Windows. reports Anti-Malware with ESET connection.
Hamster Kombat is a clicker game in which users earn virtual money by clicking on the screen. The game is available on the Telegram messenger. Against the background of the popularity of the original project, scammers began to clone the functionality by publishing fake games in app stores.
So, a copy of the game appeared on Google Play – “Hamster Kombat – Earn Crypto”. ESET researchers detected the activity of attackers using this game as bait.
Some Telegram chats also distribute malware disguised as an “improved” version of the popular game. These programs allegedly offer great features and the ability to earn in-game points faster. However, behind the “Hamster.apk” file hides a program called Ratel, which can read SMS messages, collect system information and automatically subscribe users to paid services without their knowledge.
Attackers are distributing the Lumma information shaper for Windows users, which hackers can also use to steal Google accounts.
