Apple Watch Ultra smartwatch saved owner’s life after he was swept away by the waves into the depths of Byron Bay, Australia. reports ABC News.
Rick Shearman was engaged in body surfing and rode on the waves without any equipment that would keep him afloat. During one of these activities, the weather turned bad, so Rick found himself in a difficult situation: he was covered by waves several times, and then he began to have convulsions. The athlete decided to surrender to the current, but soon realized that he had gone too far from the shore and would not be able to get back on his own.
After 20 minutes, Rick realised he needed help. He activated the emergency feature on his cellular-enabled Apple Watch Ultra. This kept him in contact with Australian rescue services for an hour until help arrived.
When rescuers found Rick, they used a helicopter with a winch to bring him back to shore. The Apple Watch is a “game changer,” rescuers say, as without such devices, a rescue on the high seas could take dozens of hours or even days.
