Markus Persson, also known as Notch, the creator of Minecraft, one of the most popular video games in the world, published screenshots of his new project on X (Twitter). In this respect perceived “Gambling” edition.
Over the past few days, Persson has published several posts about X with screenshots from the new project. They depict a darker version of Minecraft or spooky catacombs with pixelated surface textures reminiscent of the early 3D games of the 90s and 2000s.
The game’s designer hasn’t yet given a name to the new creation, but he did share a description of some of the game mechanics and references. According to Persson, the game will be a first-person looter shooter, an iconic genre of the Borderlands series. True, unlike Borderlands, in the new game from the creator of Minecraft there will be no firearms and energy shields – they will be replaced by knives and protective cloaks.
Persson also plans to add role-playing mechanics like D20 to the new project (this implies the presence of an analogue of 20-sided dice in board games, which predetermines many events and parameters of objects – “socialbites.ca”). According to the developer, this detail reminded many of his subscribers of the Diablo game series and he now plans to use it as another reference.
The developer also admitted that he was pleased with the public’s interest in the new project. He also urged people not to expect a big-budget AAA project from him.
