Artificial intelligence found a way to speed up airport operations by 20% 03:59

British researchers from Lancaster University Business School have developed a new approach to air traffic management. It is based on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. The article was published in the scientific journal magazine Transportation Science (TRSC).

Using a combination of digital modeling and optimization, scientists have found a better way to determine aircraft landing order. This has reduced weather delays by more than 20% compared to the simple first-in, first-out rule and increased punctuality across all airport operations.

The researchers emphasized that airport operations are subject to uncertainty due to the unpredictability of flight times, flight delays, weather conditions and other factors.

Current methods for optimizing the landing sequence of aircraft do not always take into account all the nuances of air traffic organization. According to scientists, artificial intelligence can handle these tasks. The neural network analyzes the consequences of decisions in difficult circumstances and recommends the best options.
