A new feature is coming to WhatsApp 14:06

Meta Corporation (recognized as extremist and banned in Russia) has released a beta version of WhatsApp for iOS that supports Passkey technology; This allows you to change authorization using a passcode to authorization using Face ID and Touch ID. In this respect reports 9to5Mac publication with reference to the WABetaInfo portal.

Passkey is a technology developed by the FIDO Alliance in collaboration with companies such as Apple, Google and Microsoft. Instead of traditional passwords, it allows users to log in to various systems using alternative authentication methods such as facial recognition without creating any passwords.

Starting with iOS 16, iPhone users will be able to create and save passwords using Safari and iCloud Keychain. With the release of iOS 17, this functionality has been extended to third-party apps.

To test Passkey on WhatsApp, you need to download the beta version of the messenger with build number 24.2.10.73. It is unknown when the new feature support will appear in the public version of WhatsApp.
