Almost a quarter (24%) of PC gamers in Russia use the VK Play game store. socialbites.ca learned about this from the results of a survey conducted by analysts at the XYZ online school of video game development.
According to the survey, the most popular service was Steam. It is installed in 96% of Russian gaming fans. Steam launched in 2003 as a way to automatically keep Valve’s games up to date, but has grown to become the world’s largest digital game distribution service.
Epic Games Store, launched by Epic Games in December 2018, is installed by 78% of players and ranks second in terms of popularity. The service attracts developers with more favorable revenue distribution conditions and periodically offers free games to users.
Battle.net took third place – it was installed by 40% of Russian gamers. The service serves as the central platform for Blizzard games such as World of Warcraft, StarCraft, Diablo, Hearthstone, and Overwatch.
The VK Play gaming platform is installed by 24% of survey respondents. Origin service developed by Electronic Arts is in the top five. Installed by 22% of players.
“The growing popularity of VK Play plays an important role in the import substitution strategy, as it provides users with access to a wide range of domestically produced gaming content. “This supports the development of the Russian gaming industry and reduces dependence on foreign developers,” he said.
