American astronomers from the Green Bank Observatory (GBO) in West Virginia have accidentally discovered a completely dark galaxy J0613+52, filled with untouched primordial gas. It looks like there are no stars visible in it. The research was published in the official gazette Web site scientific institution.
Experts drew attention to this region of space due to an error made when entering coordinates while examining another galaxy with low brightness.
According to scientists, J0613+52 is located approximately 270 million light-years from Earth and claims to be the faintest galaxy ever found and the first relatively nearby primordial gas galaxy.
Analysis showed that J0613+52 consists largely of hydrogen and helium; these are primary elements that bear no trace of the heavier materials seen in the interiors of stars. However, because the gas is dispersed over a very wide area in space, stars themselves cannot form.
Astronomers believe that this primordial gas may have remained unchanged since the birth of the universe, after the Big Bang. Researchers have suggested the existence of other very faint galaxies, but they are extremely difficult to detect using most current observation methods.
Previous scientists opened massive intergalactic stream of stars.
