According to the company’s press service, MTS has completed the main stage of modernization of the mobile communications network, covering all Moscow metro lines.
As part of the modernization, digital ecosystem technicians laid radiant cables in the tunnels and installed new equipment. By the end of 2023, the company has managed to increase the length of the radiating cable to almost 200 km and install approximately 700 additional base station units. This made it possible to provide continuous coverage on all metro lines and stations, including new ones.
“Approximately 2.8 million of our subscribers use mobile internet in the Moscow metro every day. The dynamics of Internet traffic consumption in the capital’s metro exceeds the growth rate of Internet consumption throughout Moscow, and the most “pumping” base stations in the region are located in the metro,” said Vladislav Medvedev, technical director of MTS for the Moscow region. .
So in December, the company’s subscribers downloaded approximately 1,100 TB per week on the metro. This is more than the data traffic in million-plus cities like Voronezh or Nizhny Novgorod.
The company’s engineers also unified all LTE frequency bands, as a result of which the maximum speed of mobile Internet increased to 500 Mbit/s in Moscow metro stations and 250 Mbit/s in tunnels.
“According to our estimates, traffic will continue to increase due to both internet consumption and the development of the metro. We are following the expansion plan and in 2024 we have set ourselves the task of providing communications to new Troitskaya Line stations, as well as optimizing the existing network in certain sections that require non-standard solutions,” Medvedev added.
He emphasized that in 2023, voice traffic using VoLTE technology (voice transmission over the LTE network) in the Moscow metro increased by almost 60 percent.
Let’s remember that there was DMTEL company before. accepted MTS is the leader in the quality of mobile Internet in the capital’s metro.
